The national unemployment rate rose to 4.4% in June 2017 and the number of unemployed persons increased by 116,000 to 7.0 million according to the latest monthly employment situation report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics

The number of people employed increased by 222,000 in June. The three-month average increased from an adjusted 136,000 to 194,000 in June while the trailing twelve-month average slowed from an adjusted 193,000 to 187,000 reflecting a stronger job market a year ago. Employment rose in healthcare, social assistance, financial activities, and mining; other industries were little changed.
