Recruiting and Hiring Advice

Hiring News

April 6, 2012

By: Connie Blaszczyk, Managing Editor, Resource Center

The week’s lead story: the signing of the Jumpstart Our Business Startsups (JOBS) Act into law. The bill looks to empower entrepreneurs by easing regulatory requirements for small companies that plan to go public. Reuters News cautions that the Act doesn’t mean a Wild West for companies, however.

Aso in national news this week: March small business hiring numbers reached their highest in a year.

Here are a few of the other stories we noticed this week on recruiting, hiring and more:

  • Inc.comContent Marketing: Next Big Buzz
Online content is news again -- coined here as “content marketing”  -- i.e., using your own branded content for marketing purposes, instead of advertising.  Read content expert Ann Handley’s recommendations on how online content can enhance your company branding.
  • Fast Company: The Evolution of Facebook and “Boy CEO” Mark Zuckerberg
Writer Ellen McGirt’s story looks at the evolution of the Facebook founder and the company’s recruiting strategy -- from a referral network to an outreach network. The company's current recruiting strategy actively involves the Facebook engineering team in the interviewing process, as well as attendance at campus recruitment events and other in-person social meet ups.

And check out this week's Monster 5 for Friday: Gen Y in the Workforce.

Enjoy -- and happy holiday weekend!
